The Program

The March will begin at 11 AM and will end at the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol. The Rally program will then begin:

CRYSTAL C. MERCEREmcee: Crystal C. Mercer, Artist and Activist

Crystal is a freelance performance artist and sole proprietor of Columbus Creative Arts + Activism and Merchant and lead designer of SAFI FABric MARKET. Mercer’s past credits include a number of plays and musicals in Arkansas, off – Broadway in New York, and internationally in Canterbury, England.

She fuses arts and activism by using theatre and textiles to tell social justice narratives, through merchandising and storytelling, with an emphasis of uplifting voices of color. A dedicated public servant, a woman of many creative talents, and the daughter of legendary late civil rights lawyer, Attorney Christopher C. Mercer, Jr. , she honors the legacy of her father by using theatre arts as a tool for empowerment, education, and social justice. Stay connected, find her at:


Jan NielsonInvocation: Jan Nielsen, Rev. Unitarian Universalist Church

Rev. Jan K. Nielsen, J.D., M.Div., serves as the Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Little Rock.  A graduate of the Divinity School of Harvard University and the University of Arkansas School of Law, Rev. Jan served in New England before returning home to Arkansas where she and her partner, Roger Jeremiah, had grown up.

Rev. Jan and Roger are the proud parents of three young adult children, each one an advocate for human rights.


Gwendolynn CombsIntroduction: Gwendolynn Combs, BTCA Founder

Gwendolynn is a mom, an educator, an editor, an environmentalist, a veteran, and an advocate. She is an Ohio native transplanted in Arkansas by way of Japan by the the US Air Force in 2001. She is the founder of Be the Change Alliance.

The WMA is the first event she’s organized, and she’s  dedicated to continuing activism efforts into the future.
